Golden Settlement Building Developer Spotlight – Nov 2020

Greetings Explorers!

It's been a very busy and exciting time for the Catan – World Explorers team and we're happy to bring you an update regarding Personal and Golden Settlements. If you caught the live stream and follow the forum, you may already be familiar with the changes but I'll quickly recap!

What was previously known as a Personal Settlement is now a Golden Settlement (still unlocked at level 3, using special Golden Building cards), and now players with update 1.20.1 have a new Personal Settlement (unlocked at level 1) that is a little your-eyes-only Settlement that has two foundations for Building Cards.

We've implemented a number of balance changes which we hope will be more rewarding and worthwhile for both casual and competitive players and bring the rewards more in line with the effort required to unlock the building which grants it. Also, there's a number of building options available so the following list will also be a summary of how to unlock Rank 1 of each.

This post will specifically look at the Golden Settlement – there will be another for Community Settlement Buildings soon!


Golden Buildings with Collect Bonus


Markets – Brick/Lumber/Wool/Grain/Ore

Previous:

  • 1 Epic Dice Toss Minigame of resource type.
  • 4 day cooldown at level 1, decreasing cooldown by 1 day per level.

New:

  • 1 Dice Toss Minigame of type, Common rarity at level 1, increasing to Epic at level 4
  • 4 hour cooldown at all levels

How to Unlock Level 1:

  • Play 25 minigames of that type.

Developer's Note:

Four day cooldowns that could be optimized were not the kind of fun we were looking for. Achieving Level 1 is fairly easy to target, and being able to harvest games multiple times a day was more interesting to us. It's important to note that while this provides less "Epic" game cards than it used to, it now provides many more dice to roll and gain rewards from overall.


Mint

Previous:

  • 1 Gold per level
  • 1 day cooldown

New:

  • (unchanged) 1 Gold per level
  • 4 hour cooldown

How to Unlock Level 1:

  • Throw 10 Golden Dice (down from 20)

Developer's Note:

Lowered cooldown and the level 1 requirement to increase availability and output of this building.


Storehouse

Previous:

  • 2 random Resource Cards per Level
  • 1 day cooldown

New:

  • (unchanged) 2 random Resource Cards per Level
  • 4 hour cooldown

How to Unlock Level 1:

  • Spend 100 Resource Cards in crafting Building Cards.

Developer's Note:

Lowering cooldown so that you can get more Resources to trade or craft with is good.


University

Previous:

  • 50 RP per Level
  • 1 day cooldown

New:

  • (unchanged) 50 RP per Level
  • 4 hour cooldown

How to Unlock Level 1:

  • Salvage 20 cards (from 50)

Developer's Note:

Lowering cooldown and the sacrifice needed for Level 1.


Weaver

Previous:

  • 1500 XP per level
  • 1 day cooldown

How to Unlock Rank 1:

  • Trade with Catanians 10 times

Developer's Note:

Unchanged. Included for information purposes on how to unlock.



Golden Buildings with Harvest Dice Bonus


Archive

Previous:

  • 25 RP per level on roll

New:

  • 100 RP per level on roll

How to Unlock Level 1:

  • Spend 22,000 RP

Developer's Note:

Increased building rewards for spending RP equivalent to unlocking all common Building Cards.


Community Center

Previous:

  • 150 Resource Tokens of each resource type per level on roll

New:

  • 200 Resource Tokens of a random resource type per level on roll

How to Unlock Level 1:

  • Play 100 Dice Toss Minigames

Developer's Note:

This building has been over-delivering resource tokens for a number of months, and we are glad players got to take advantage of it. However, it has been adjusted downward to maintain game balance.


Grand Treasury

Previous:

  • 2 Gold per level on roll

New:

  • 3 Gold per level on roll

How to Unlock Level 1:

  • Spend 1000 Gold

Developer's Note:

Increased rewards.


Library

Previous:

  • 25 RP and 100 XP per rank on roll

New:

  • 50 RP and 200 XP per rank on roll

How to Unlock Rank 1:

  • Collect 10,000 RP

Developer's Note:

Increased rewards.


Producers – Brick Kiln / Lumber Mill / Wool Storage / Ore Foundry / Grain Silo

Previous:

  • 50 Resource Tokens of type per level on roll

New:

  • 200 Resource Tokens (2 cards) of type per level on roll

How to Unlock Level 1:

  • Collect 100 cards of each type

Developer's Note:

Greatly increased rewards.


Town Plaza

Previous:

  • 500 XP per level on roll

How to Unlock Rank 1:

  • Start 5 buildings

Developer's Note:

Unchanged. Included for information purposes.

    • @CATANEir what does "Throw 10 Golden Dice (down from 20)" mean? Are the golden dice: rolling the dice in the golden settlement? Or is it rolling onto the coin when rolling in a settlement?

    Golden dice is the 7 day streak dice of daily dice roll, I think.

    hey would be best if you just let community center offer 50 resources each totaling 250, thats still a 33% decrease.

    Thank you for the further information.

    As to the various gold rewards: are these still within the ‘free’ gold cap? If so, they continue to be unattractive. Most can reach the free gold cap each day through dice throws, meaning all these buildings are irrelevant to most players.

    these rewards are by no means ‘free’

    Agree with @Earthtone. we have to use gold to place these buildings but it does not contribute to our income at all coz of the gold cap.
